Does Meditation Give You Superpowers?

Today I am delighted to share with you a guest post from Dr Lesley Phillips on meditation. Dr Phillips is a speaker, author, workshop leader, meditation teacher, healer and clairvoyant reader.

Well, I don’t know about you, but I wouldn’t mind some superpowers, so I’m very intrigued to see where this article takes us… Over to you, Lesley.

Confessions of a Transatlantic Citizen

First of all, I think I need to confess.

I am British, but I live in Vancouver in Canada. I moved here in 1998. So now I’m one of those funny transatlantic people, who doesn’t completely belong in one place or the other.

I think I fit in here, but then I still have an English accent and commonly quote British sayings that make no sense to the locals. Then when I visit the UK I use the wrong words, such as trunk (boot), hood (bonnet), gas (petrol) and fanny pack (best not get started on that one).

When I moved here, I was a biotech business development executive with a Ph.D. in drug discovery. Somehow along the way, I reinvented myself and now I am a meditation teacher, spiritual counselor, clairvoyant, energy healer and author.

I live for Meditation

Meditation has helped me so much in my life, I live to share what I know with others. I know it can help heal a sick person, relieve a stressed out business man, focus a wandering mind and put a disempowered victim back in charge of their life.

Not only that, but because it helps you tune out external distractions, it helps you tune into you. Then you can discover who the real you is. Many people are being the person they think they should be, and living the life they think they ought to live, because they don’t really know who the real “me” is.

When you quiet your mind, you connect with that bright spark of divine consciousness that is the masterful creator of your life. That is who you really are. You are so powerful you cannot begin to imagine it. Meditation provides you with a direct experience of the divine within you and helps you take charge of your life.

When I first started meditating, I began to tune into what I had stored inside myself. There was physical pain, emotional distress, memories that coloured my beliefs about the world and how it operated, as well as programming and limits that came from other people.

While I was carrying this baggage around in my energy field, I was experiencing the world through it. What is more, the world was also experiencing me through it. I think of it as though I was walking around in a glass bubble. When my window needed cleaning I didn’t have a clear view of the world and the world didn’t have a clear view of me.

Meditation was my Windolene

Meditation allowed me to sort through all of this and release what was not benefitting me. Then as I began to change my inner world, and as my window began to clear, a strange thing happened. My outer world also began to shift.

I became clear about what I believed in and what was really important to me. I realised that my body was important. I noticed how stressed out it had become and that I had been pushing it too hard. I had been running around the world, with little sleep or personal time, from one business meeting to another.

I also realised that many of the values that I had thought were important were not my values at all. That getting ahead, climbing the corporate ladder, earning more money, having higher status were empty dreams. In fact I wasn’t sure any more that they were my dreams at all.

Finally I realised I didn’t even agree with the corporate machine that I was participating in. That what seemed like power and status may be what most people believe is important, but it isn’t real at all. True power is about knowing who you are, why you are here and living the best life you can in accordance with this knowledge.

Meditation Helped Me Access My Power

What I discovered was that I am a spiritual messenger, and my job is to teach people to recognise that they are spirit. I do this by teaching them to meditate and also how to access their spiritual superpowers.

Yes you heard me correctly!

You see, since I began meditating, I have discovered that I have many superpowers.

My first superpower is X-Ray vision. Meditation allowed me to open my spiritual sense of sight, otherwise known as clairvoyance. This is the ability to see clearly as spirit. I see and read the energy fields around people and I am able to see and communicate with non physical beings.

My second superpower is that I can hear through walls and talk to people over the other side of the world without a telephone. This is a spiritual sense, called clairaudience, the ability to hear as spirit. Yes it’s true I chat all day long to my invisible friends.

My third superpower is the ability to work with energy. I am able to heal myself and assist in the healing of others. I work with a healing guide and my other superpowers to release unhelpful energy and replace it with energy that is.

Now I realise there may be at least a few of you, who at this point are thinking I may be a few pennies short of a pound here. I completely understand it if you think I have lost the plot, especially if you have no direct experience on what I’m talking about.

So I challenge you to clean your window and see what happens.

In my experience we all have spiritual superpowers!

And we can access them through meditation.

In fact I wrote my new book, to teach people how to meditate and access their spiritual abilities. “The Midas Tree” is an adventure novel that follows the hero, Joshua on a magical adventure inside a tree, where he battles his ego, is mentored by mystical creatures called devas, and learns how to overcome life challenges through meditation and by accessing his spiritual abilities.

  1. Lesley

Thank you so much for this fascinating guest post.

I have not experienced the type of superpowers you talk about, but that just makes it all the more interesting to read about your experiences.

But meditation has been a good friend to me, especially when my health has challenged me (and my sanity!).

I’m sure the lovely Reinvention Tour readers will love this post too.

    Thank you.

    Karen… Xx

  2. Mediation has been an important part in my healing too Karen, an invaluable part of my healing toolkit along with Reiki. The universe has not given me the ability to hear spirits but I feel them often when I am treating other people and can see energy fields, I feel blessed 🙂 x

  3. It seems to me that you’d just be able to see yourself clearer through the practice of meditation. If you’re undecided about things in your life, maybe you just need to stop thinking of all the variables such as what others think of you, what others want for you, etc., and just figure out what you want for yourself.

    • Hey John

I remember reading that straight after meditation is a really powerful time to think about your life. I guess for the reasons you have said: if the mind is quieter and clearer, you hear your own true voice, and not the ‘shoulds’ or ‘cannots’ that can be way too loud sometimes!

      Thank you for coming by…

    • Exactly right John,
In fact there are meditation techniques that allow you to consciously release the energy and beliefs of others, so that you can easily tune in to your inner voice, which is a direct connection to your higher self and therefore knows what is right for you.

  5. its hard to take a person serious about meditation and the struggle to shed the ego when the post contains parts about their superpowers

    • Hi Joe – it was meant to be light and humorous. Meditation does not have to be serious. I used the word “superpower” because its sounds much more fun that “spiritual abilities.” In my life and practice I am passionate about teaching people to access their spiritual abilities and I do it by teaching them meditation techniques. In my experience humour is one of the best healing vibrations of all! You’ll shed your ego much more readily through a good old belly laugh than being really serious about it. You only have to look at the laughing Buddha or the Dalai Lama or Eckhart Tolle to realize that the most enlightened ones are also the least serious. I also believe that everyone has these superpowers and I enjoy showing people how easy it is (with a little guidance and mentoring) to activate and use them.

      • BTW – Thanks for putting some new life into this article – for you and anyone else who reads it I want to extend the opportunity to have a free intuitive reading. All you have to do is go to – enter your question and I will use my spiritual superpowers to provide you with an answer via e-mail!

  6. meditation helps in understanding the truth of universe,if we follow it through the way of tripitaka of lord buddha.
